Kites over the Mersey 2008
New Brighton, Wirral 7th - 8th June 2008
The 'Dips' at New Brighton are again to be the venue for Wirral’s sixth annual international Kite Festival, featuring award winning guest fliers from all over the world.
The event taking place from 11 am to 4.00pm is a two day event for all the family with a variety of spectacular show kites on display, including artistic kites, giant inflatable kites, sports kites and power kites. There will also be a kite-making workshop for all those have-a-go fliers! The cost for the Kite Making workshop will be £1.00.
Road Directions
Exit the M53 at jct 1 and follow the signs for New Brighton.
Exiting the Wallasey Tunnel, follow the signs for Liscard and New Brighton (A554).
Exiting the Birkenhead Tunnel follow the signs for Wallasey, Liscard and the New Brighton (A554).
Camping:
The camp site for this event is at Caldy Rugby club, Telegraph Road, off the A540. It is around 4 miles from the flying site. No camping is allowed on the actual flying site.
Directions
Caldy Club lies on the Wirral Peninsula between Heswall and West Kirby just off the main A540 Chester to Hoylake Road.From all points North, East and South via M6 M62 and M56.
Go to the end of the M56 motorway and turn left at the large roundabout following signs for North Wales, Queensferry. At the next rounabout turn right on to the A540 following signs for Hoylake. Stay on this road all the way to Caldy Club via Heswall centre.
From Liverpool via the Wallasey Tunnel.
Leave the tunnel and follow signs for M53 Chester. Exit the Motorway at Junction 2 sign posted A551, Hoylake and West Kirby. Follow this slip road to a roundabout and continue straight on, signposted to West Kirby. Pass through a set of traffic lights and at the next roundabout (Cricket Club on left) turn right for West Kirby, Greasby and Frankby. Continue along this road past 'Twelfth Man' and 'Red Cat' pubs on left to the next roundabout. Continue straight on, pass the Church (St John The Divine) on the right and then, just before the road bends to the right, turn left into Hillbark road. Take the first right (opposite 'The Farmers Arms' pub) on to Montgomery Hill and continue until you reach a roundabout. Turn left, Caldy Club entrance is approximately 200m on left.
From North Wales via Queensferry.
Follow the A494 over Queensferry bridge and past Sealand RAF Station. At Traffic Lights bear left on to the A550, signposted Birkenhead. At the next traffic lights (Honda garage on left) turn left on to the A 540, signposted Heswall, West Kirby and Hoylake. Continue along this road all the way to Caldy Club via Heswall centre (as below).
